Credit for the title of this post goes to Anna who thought that those were the lyrics to the song One Jump Ahead from Aladdin and we laughed about if for probably 30 mins and the moment needed to somehow be documented.
Thursday I went to the Library of Congress which is one of the most beautiful buildings in DC and I learned that you can get a library card there and use study rooms and stuff so that might be where I go to study on my free days from now on.
That evening was Halloween on campus which I volunteered at and got to pass out candy as they trick-or-treat across campus. The best costume by far and possibly the highlight of the night was a probably 7 year old girl who came up and very enthusiastically said “I’m a bunny!!” and then as I went to put candy in her bag yelled “WITH A MACHETE” and whipped out a giant fake machete from behind her. As she was waking away she hadn’t said thank you and her mom goes “Even killer bunnies have manners” and it was one of the best lines I have ever heard spoken. Highlight of the night #2 was some guy who walked out from his dorm in a super legit prince charming costume and then proceeded to stop and bow to this little girl dressed as a princess he walked passed. I told him his costume was great and then he stopped to talk and was super nice and I’m happy people like that exist in this world.
On Friday for some reason everyone in my group decided they hated each other. There was friendship drama all throughout the weekend and everyone is in this weird frienemy state and I stopped keeping up and am just gonna live my life.
Saturday was the big party night but at that point I was a little done with people and was boycotting Halloween so I stayed in and watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (one of the worst but best movies I’ve ever seen with a pretty weak plot but flawless casting-I highly recommend) and found other people staying in and we ordered pizza and had a super chill night.
Tuesday night I went to House Mass which is just Mass in the campus ministry living room. There were like 200 people crammed in there and it reminded me of all the times I’ve had Mass at my grandmas house with my entire family piled into a room together and it just felt like comfortable and like home and is exactly what I need in my life. Also the sisters sang the most beautiful Ave Maria I’ve ever heard and I just couldn’t stop smiling through Mass and I keep finding beautiful things like this at the right times.
Friday night the House activity was Raise the Flag, which was like an even more fun version of capture the flag because everyone wore glow sticks with their team color and you had to win rock paper scissors to kill people and then use the glow sticks you win to buy things like instant kills and flags and then take over bases and raise your team flag. My team did not win but we did start a group chat after and plan on getting a group together for those types of games frequently. One girl on my team also has like 30 cousins and they’re all super close and play games like mine does so yay. There was also a masquerade dance thingy that night so we ran back changed in about 5 mins and then danced for the rest of the night.
It seems my Thanksgiving plans have changed again…now it seems Ashley and Patrick are coming down to DC as well as Clare’s family! So thats going to be great and I’m so excited, but if Clare’s team wins she probably can’t join so we’re all praying they lose.
I’m going to be following Orthodox Jewish Kosher laws for the next 2 weeks starting Tuesday which is kind of insane, but I’m excited. There are certain rules that will be impossible to follow since I am sharing a kitchen and can’t ask everyone to not use it so that I can deep clean it and then only use it to cook dairy or meat. I almost decided against doing it when I realized it wasn’t possible to follow it 100% but I think what I’m doing still allows me to complete the assignment and will be an interesting experience.
I was supposed to go to Portland for a big family thing next weekend but that is no longer happening which is a little upsetting but instead I get to visit Allison because my school is taking a bus up to ND for a basketball game which will be so fun and then my roommate and I are going a Grouplove concert as a sort of birthday present and I can’t even describe how excited I am for next week.
