Wow okay lots of updates
I’m a month in and I guess I’m finally settling into this whole “college” thing. I had a pretty bad cold about two weeks into school (glad that’s over with), I’ve had several late-night outings for food with friends, and I’ve even ditched class! (No worries, I planned it, and it was on Webcast, so I watched it later that evening.)
Because it’s been a while, I’m going to make a second post and dedicate this one to exclusively news in my residential hall!
SO! News in my building!
The whiteboard I put next to my door in the hallway has been great! We wipe it every week, so it’s constantly changing. Here, you can see the last three updates (idk if I’ll upload every one from now on, maybe just the interesting ones? idk We’ll figure it out)
It gets kinda weird at times, but mostly it’s been pretty tame. Overall I think the whiteboard’s pretty cool (and you all should get one!) especially since it brings everyone right by my dormroom, and my roommates and I get a lot of people coming in to play super smash bros or mario kart, or to hang out and talk.
You can’t really tell in this photo, but there are probably a dozen people in my room and more at the doorway, (all coming to see me, obviously)
I guess the one downside is that it gets a bit wearisome to have so many people in and out of the room all day and all night. But of course my roommates and I’ve agreed to shut the door a couple times, giving that much needed peace and quiet
Also, our elevator broke a while back, and since there’s only one elevator in the whole building, some people had to climb EIGHT FLOORS (read: 16 flights of stairs) to get to their dorm rooms.
Thankfully, I’m on the third floor (technically British 2nd, but whatever). Point is, I take the stairs anyways, but it sucks to be the rest of the building. Here’s a picture because for some reason i have one:
Another thing which I find fairly humorous:
There are only three laundry rooms in our building, and one of them is right next to my room. Needless to say, people forget their socks. A LOT.
Well, about two weeks ago some of us were up late and had a poor, forgotten, hapless sock. Without its partner, we knew it couldn’t have much joy. HOWEVER! We believed this sock had a calling for something greater than a life lost in the laundry room.
As it turns out, our RA had just finished a practice LSAT and didn’t want to be disturbed. So we did the logical thing: we put the sock on our RA’s doorknob!
Luckily, our RA had a good humor about it, and now his bulletin board has become a memorial to lost socks, hence the photo. I actually got out of bed just to snap that pic for you all
Lastly, here’s a short list of some fun, unique things that I’ve done on my floor and in the hallway:
I spent an evening swing dancing in my hallway and *trying* to teach others how to swing dance. It didn’t work very well, but I think I deserve an A for effort
I rode a skateboard through my hallway, because why not
I did a massive amount of homework on the floor in my hallway (during some of the nights when people are in my room, it’s easier to focus in the hallway)
I watched half of a horror movie in the hallway (I think it was called Trolls? It was one of those movies that’s so bad it’s good but it wasn’t good either imo)
I learned how to fence and had a short duel with the de facto best fencer at Berkeley, who also happens to be my roommate, in my hallway. I didn’t win (or come close), but I now know how to parry and stab (sortof).
And lastly, I participated in a very poorly planned game of hackisack in my hallway. Turns out, cramped hallways aren’t conducive to forming a wide hackisack circle, but again, we tried.
That’s it for now, but in the next update i’ll write about happenings beyond my hallway!!
